Thanks to BSNL and Quadgen Wireless Solutions that their partnership has delivered free Wi-Fi to people in Kerala. Three spots at Kozhikode and 10 spots at Kochi have received Wi-Fi hotspots in the state, effective from July 1, 2015.
Under the free Wi-Fi, people can access internet for free in first 30 minutes in a day for maximum three consecutive occasions in a month for the same mobile number. Subsequently, people can pay for the service through online or recharge coupons available at the places.
The overall plan of BSNL is to roll out free Wi-Fi at 1,113 locations in Kerala. For the purpose, nearly 135 locations in Trivandrum, with 585 access points are identified. “This project will commence based on the support from the local authorities,” said M. S. S. Rao, CGM, BSNL Kerala Circle.
Regarding the Digital India initiative of the Government, Mr. Rao said, “BSNL is proud to be a part of this revolutionary project and hopes to give best services to Kerala.”
Kerala has already connected its Block Headquarters and Gram Panchayats using National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN), which has facilitated the bandwidths of e-Governance, e-Health etc. The works to replace the old Digital Switches with Next Generation Network (NGN) will be completed this month in the state. New promotional plans, free roaming with free SIMs, unlimited free night calls etc. are the other offers from BSNL for the state. A mobile banking service and cell broadband service called ‘BSNL Buzz’ has also been launched.
According to PGM-Finance K. Kulanthaivel, BSNL Kerala showcases an exceptional growth when compared to other states. The Y-o-Y revenue increase of the circle is around 4.76 percent in the first quarter of year.
