TRAI Raises SMS Limit To 200 SMS Per Day Per SIM

Now, there seems to be good news for all the SMS fans or Heavy SMS Users! Indian Telecom regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today increased the limit of One hundred SMS (100 SMS) per day per SIM to Two hundred SMS (200 SMS) per day per SIM for prepaid users.

TRAI also doubles the SMS limits/caps for Postpaid mobile service users from 3000 SMS per month to 6000 SMS per month per SIM.

TRAI said that it has received representations from some of the service providers and consumers to increase the limit of 100 SMS per day per SIM. The Authority has considered these representations and decided to increase the limit of one hundred SMS per day per SIM to two hundred SMS per day per SIM.The new SMS cap of 200 SMSes per SIM per day for Prepaid and 6000 SMSes per SIM per month on Postpaid will be effective from today i.e. 1st November 2011.

On 27th September, TRAI directs all Access Providers (GSM and CDMA Mobile service operators) to sets a cap of 100 SMSs per day per users as earlier we shared on TelecomTalk.

New SMS Limits / Cap for Prepaid and Postpaid Subscribers :

Prepaid : 200 SMS Per Day Per SIM (existing 100 SMS/Day)

Postpaid : 6000 SMS Per Month Per SIM (existing 3000 SMS/Month)

If this irrational behaviour is continued by the telecom operators, more and more people who have GPRS active on their cells should opt for whatsapp, its an app for symbian, android, Blackberry and iOS phones which allows users to send unlimitted sms to other whatsapp users any where in the world, no worries of daily sms cap. The one way in which it is different from traditional mobile messengers is that it doesnt require additional usernames or pins like BBM, it uses your mobile number and integrates your phone book, so you can send sms directly.

Today also after finishing 100 SMS , I got a SMS from reliance that “AS PER TRAI REGULATION YOU HAVE REACHED THE DAILY LIMIT OF 100 SMS TODAY”
Why is that in imposing the restriction of 100 SMS per day, Reliance was the first to send the SMS to Customers informing the restriction, but now when the restriction has been relaxed Reliance people have no idea of the relaxation or are not ready to follow the TRAI regulation

By increasing the sms limit there is some relief given by the govt. of India but not from the telecom company.
Still am not able to send more than 100 sms in a day by a sim.
And when i called to cust. care they said they don’t even know such regulation has been passes by the govt.
    Wah re TELECOM COMPANY.
When the 100 sms regulation was passed from the 1st day you have cut the sms limit and now when the sms limit has been increased now you dont know any thing.

I am not a big SMS sender except on some festivals when I use online SMSs websites. I have enrolled my mobile numbers in NDNC Registry and hardly ever receive SMSs from telemarketing agencies. But I really face the heat of TRAI’s SMS cap on Google SMS channel, Google SMS Search, IRCTC and SMSs from my bank regarding transactions. especially Google SMS channel has stopped working fully and no SMSs are received now a days.

Dost channel should not be blocked it always open. Is u disturb with telemarketing sms just silent your sms tone. because sms are not essential as calls. Its very irritating to receive telemarketing voice calls not the sms. I am sure TRAI one day will cap the voice call limit.

Gud news. But, this is going to make pesky sms back unless trai lifts the 5paise termination charges for commercial SMS. The 5paise termination charges makes the bulk SMS very costlier. The advertisers may choose offline SMS back, they have no other option. So, If Trai Lifts the Termination charges on Commercial SMS, then only the DND subscribers will not get pesky sms.

Trai). “The authority has received representations from some of the service providers and consumers to increase the limit of 100 SMSes per day per SIM. The authority has considered these representations and decided to increase the limit of 100 SMSes per day per SIM to 200 SMSes per day per SIM,” Trai said in a statement today. To deter unsolicited SMSes by telemarketing companies, Trai had earlier restricted the number of non- commercial SMSes that can be send from a SIM to 100. There was no restriction on commercial messages sent through telemarketing companies registered with Trai. The new cap of 200 SMSes per sim per day will be effective from today. After much delay, TRAI in September this year came out with recommendations to stop pesky calls and text messages, directing that no operators will permit the transmission of more than 100 SMSes per day per SIM. In a bid to clamp down pesky SMSes, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had said that it will impose a termination charge of 5 paise
per SMS on operators from whose networks commercial messages originate. Termination charges are paid by an operator from whose network calls or SMS originate to the one on whose network these communications end. These charges impact tariffs. “The promotional SMS charge shall be Re 0.05 (five paisa only). The Originating Access provider may collect the promotional SMS charge from the registered telemarketer,” TRAI said in a notification. At present, some operators charge a termination fee of up to 15 paise per SMS. The current directive would make it mandatory for all operators to charge the termination levy for commercial SMSes.
