Tata Docomo to Shut Down Postpaid Services in Rajasthan, Bihar & West Bengal

Tata Docomo Shuts Down postpaid servicesTata Docomo is all set to shut down postpaid services in less profitable circles to cut down operational costs. The shut down of postpaid services will be extended to both GSM and CDMA network, and in three circles – Rajasthan, Bihar and Rest of West Bengal (Kolkata excluded) with effect from 17th June, 2013. They already have informed the customers regarding this and asked them to move to prepaid or port out to other operators.

As I have talked with Tata Docomo Online Chat, there is no special offer if postpaid customers move to prepaid services.

    Dear all
All of a sudden TD too has started cheating customers. Yesterday I recharged my prepay by rs 200 and my account showed only same balance. On complait Cc says to have withdrawn all offers but site and the retailers still tell that the offers are ongoing. Moreover the promotional SMS too are coming today also.
TD is in way of loosing repu and becoming a fraud co

The biggies will not let it happen…They will try to squeeze as much money as possible from the customers…Ridiculous but it is true in India…See the “Abolition of Roaming” initiatives…No one knows when shall that happen or whether it will actually happen in the near future…Almost 20 years have passed, still you have to pay Rs.1/1.5 roaming charges…Atleast they could keep the charges at 50p/min….

I think profit for company is postpay instead of prepay then why they liking there profit..

Well, TD is in cash trouble so the decision of firing its postpaid services doesn’t surprise me.

Vodafone, who is extremely happy with almost double profit than last years has ambitious plans to go pan india 3G by purchasing spectrum from TD, aircel, reliance if they sell it.

Postpaid is popular among heavy mobile users and corporates to mobile companies gain more from postpaid than prepaid.

Yups, Vodafone is willing to go Pan-India by buying spectrum from non-serious players but the irony is Vodafone isn’t launching or expanding 3G services in 9 circles where they have licenses. Their 3G services in Haryana is still available at the same places as it was in June 2011 and no expansion at all. They are adding most of their users in towns and villages but 3G is limited to cities only. So, I doubt their Pan-India plans. In our country, Pan-India for operators means having license and spectrum in all circles only and it doesn’t matter even if service is available in less than 10 percent area of a circle, they are Pan-India. So buying spectrum from others just to have Pan-India tag with you and not the service not gonna work. Similar kind of thing is with BSNL. They have Pan-India 3G license on papers and reality is bitter as in Haryana less than 10% of area covered by BSNL mobile network has 3G and in Punjab it is around 17%. For consumer like me Pan-India doesn’t mean having service at 10-15 places in a circle but at more than 75% places.

Vodafone (or any company) users who subscribe to 3G at their places have to rely on 2G network while travelling as 3G is available at limited places. As per info available with me, only Idea has enabled 53% of their cell sites under 3G in Haryana while all other 3 operators ranging from 10-15% only.

With the cash crisis 3G expansion by most operators is halted in low-ARPU circles. Recently NSN told that with out reaching more and more customers 3G can not be successful. Vodafone has probably worst 3G coverage across India. Idea > Airtel > Reliance > Aircel > Tata Docomo > Vodafone.

        • SS May 25, 2013 2:59 pm

Idea has the best 3G coverage in UP EAST. It has expanded its coverage really fast and it is the only 3G private operator in my city whereas vodafone and aircel are still sleeping. :-(

Idea is vigorously expanding new 3G in kerala everyday. They send sms every time they add new site.
Out of the 5600 network sites in Kerala 2700 are now 3G enabled within just 2 year of launch.
March, 2012: Idea had 1700 3G towers in Kerala.
February, 2013: Idea had 2500 3G towers in Kerala.
May, 2013: Idea had 2700 3G towers in kerala.

      Susanta,

Try to port out then from docomo ASAP.Reason in kerala aircel also did this.At first for couple of months vouchers stop. Then online STV recharges stop. Then finally only top ups of 50,100 etc will be there.when u call up they say ntws being upgraded.Thing is they ar slowly shutting down. One fine morning they slowly shut down towers and then u cant even port out.Believe me this is wat happened to my aircel number in kerala

First it was Aircel now its Docomo.

Last December Aircel also said the same in Kerala. But now they have completely shutdown both postpaid and prepaid even without allowing customers to port. Shutdown all towers too, no aircel signal anywhere.

  • sayan chattopadhyay May 24, 2013 8:19 pm

i think they are also planning to close prepay service from wb also. As according to the customer care currently any STV is not available here.
Though i can recharge some old STVs via paytm.
