Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) today released India’s ‘GSM Subscriber Figures for January 2012.
Uninor tops in the new subscriber additions, added a total of 2.49 million new GSM subscribers followed by IDEA Cellular which has added 1.75 million new subscribers in Jan’ 2012.
According to the data released by COAI total 8.44 million new GSM subscribers added with 1.32% increase from previous month taking the all-India GSM cellular subscriber base to 648.08 million at the end of January 2012. Cheers Mobile / Etisalat DB looses 1,19,093 customers during January 2012.
Among the leading GSM Mobile Service Operators, Vodafone Essar added 0.86 million new customers, boosting its subscriber base 148.60 million. Bharti Airtel notched up 1.30 million new subscribers during the month, taking its total base to 176.95 million.
State run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) manged 860846 new subscribers boosting its subscriber base 93.46 million while AIRCEL increased its base by over 0.82 million customers to take its subscriber base to 62.46 million. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) added 50,180 new users during the month, boosting its total base to 5.49 million at the end of Jan ’2011.
Please note : COAI GSM Subscriber base does not include the Reliance Communications (Rcom) and Tata Docomo’s GSM subscriber Base (same not submitted to COAI). While Pure CDMA operator MTS India said that it has added 1,43,434 customers in the month of January 2012, taking its total customer base to 15,197,661.

finally tata docomo uncap there gprs speed now with any 2g plan/pack in MDMA shows 472/472 uplink & downlink but they not access to there 3G network withot activate any 3g pack
anyway i m getting 200-250 kbps speed in it’s EDGE network i m from MH- Aurangabad now skype video chat working fine

I think TATA, Reliance do not share these info with COAI, and I believe they release their stats seperately…
All these stats are sort of eye wash, companies release such info just to hold on the excess spectrum, without paying fine… An actual finding on “Active” mobile users must be made…

yup!tht’s true that Uninor is not leaving.They have so many positives to believe on and Indians have accepted them well.So,they will continue to grow.But changing of the brand name is on the cards,for sure.Lets see who Telenor chooses next

Uninor is looking for a new partner in India. I’m just wondering what would be the name of company after that as Unitech will be out if they get one. But Unitech will not leave easily. There will be long longer longest legal battle with this.
