      Yeah u should…i feel surprisedif u r not from pune n using vodafone bcuz leavibg pune in maharashtra the speed of vodafone in 3G doesnt go above 2.4mbps In pune itd 3.1mbps (tested it)….Whats the use of paying so much n getting such a crappy speed …Even bsnl 3g for 139rs gives the same speed why pay 250 for that….
      In 3G coverage n speed idea is very much serious i get speed till 6.3mbps!! If u dont believe i can send u the img of it…n i get 1gb 3g for 124rs when i call 12125 n c my internet offer…i know itd promotional one but alternative months u get the same offer like 1st month u gotthat offet then nxt month u will not get but the followibg month again same offer….
      I like IDEA & BSNL nly for 3g in maharashtra .. .Vodafone sucks (and i mean it)

    Ha ha… No! Technology is different even though band is same. Open your phone’s user guide and its technical specs section, there you will find written GSM 900/1800 mhz. For 3g its written UMTS 900/2100 and for 4g lte 1800/2300/700

    In delhi, !dea cellular has a tie up with Vodafone for its 3g operations. Now tht they have got their own independent 900mhz of spectrum for delhi. Am desperately waiting for their own 3g services to get start in delhi circle. Coz as far as !dea is concerned this is the only operator in india which is very serious & aggressive interms of expanding their 2g or 3g towers. Thank you !dea for bagging the precious 900mhz spectrum in delhi.

    @Tarun, there is some correction needs to be done as Idea has acquired 30 blocks amounting to 6 MHz of fresh spectrum in this auction in Haryana circle. They were not holding spectrum in 1800 MHz before this and had 6.2 MHz in 900 MHz which is valid till 2016 and 5 MHz in 2.1GHz band. So it was a new entry by them and instead of 5 which was minimum for new entrants in 1800 MHz band, they bought 6MHz. :)

    In Punjab also they are operating on 900 MHz with 6.2MHz spectrum which was taken from Spice Tele and in this auction they have taken 40 blocks i.e 8MHz of spectrum in 1800 MHz band in Punjab.

    I will post the circle wise data in a long post here soon. lol

    Its really a business step because 2g is now outdated and world carriers are using it just as an back up and to provide IR services. Major problem is the handsets. Now, most of the nokia, samsung and htc smart phones support 900 Mhz 3g but low class ones like micromax don’t. So it will be major pain for them. I am also expecting launching 2g on 850 Mhz even though DOT has opposed it.

    And 3g on 450 MHZ? Anybody heard that? One operator in the world uses that frequency even though ITU has opposed that.

      I have a doubt that, if i have a phone that works on 900MHz and 1800MHz bands e.g. Nokia Asha 206. Then can i use 3g or 4g services on that handset (if launched on these bands).

      @SS
      I am interested to know about the LTE performance at 1800MHz. I mean:
      1. can it give full bandwidth of data as is the target.
      2. how far it can penetrate, I mean indoor connection.
      3. how smoothly it can switch tower.

      Some people say they get connection problem in GSM at that frequency. Do you have any friend in any country where it is already implemented?

      Anybody can help me.
      Or, probably a good article for future. :)
