The new providers are lining up with optimized plans and even hotter schemes even as subscribers are hesitant from jumping the wagon as they would need to change the number. In another setback of sorts the new operators and existing one will have to hold on for another 4 months as the DoT has pushed the implementation of Mobile Number Portability to 31st Oct. 2010.

DoT can be credited with ensuring the postponement of this important service parameter a third time even as operators are readying to take on far more advanced data services.Once again here is the bad news for Mobile Service users who are waiting for the Mobile Number Portability (MNP). Department of Telecommunication (DOT) has pushed the implementation of MNP third time across all the telecom circles to a delay of some more months from the earlier deadline of June 30, 2010.

According to the new announcement by the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) MNP will now be implemented by October. 31,2010. After ascertaining the status from all the stakeholders on the the readiness of their equipment and MNP gateway, DoT has taken the decision to delay MNP to October 2010.

After the service providers are ready with their own inter-operator test results, a complete Acceptance Test is to be carried out by Department of Telecommunications (DOT) across the networks of all the concerned service providers in all the service areas before MNP launch.

The Mobile Number Portability shall allow mobile subscribers to retain their existing mobile number when they switch from one access service provider to another irrespective of mobile technology (CDMA or GSM) or from one technology to another of the same or any other access service provider within same service area or telecom circle.
