Vodafone India, the country's second largest carrier, Tuesday said that its commercial 4G services will be operational from December 14 in Kochi. Vodafone is also providing free 4G upgrade with a SIM, with a trial pack of 120MB at Rs 29 and a bonanza pack of 20GB at Rs 2499 .
"The launch of ultrafast 4G services in India will give customers the power to experience the most advanced wireless broadband experience available across the world," Sunil Sood, MD & CEO, Vodafone India said. “Vodafone’s global expertise and experience of launching 4G across 19 countries gives it a better understanding of this technology and the needs of the 4G customer,” Sood added.
The telco is leveraging FD-LTE technology to provide 4G services using the 1800 MHz band. Vodafone’s 4G-LTE services can be accessed from a number of dual-technology (FD-LTE and TD-LTE) 4G handsets in India. The company said that its 4G is built on a strong fibre backhaul, and is supported by its own new and superfast 3G services on a modern network of 2100 MHz. The 4G launch makes Vodafone the first telecom operator in Kerala to offer 2G/3G/4G services.
Kerala is a focus market for Vodafone India. Over the last 18 months, the company has invested more than Rs 700 crores in Kerala towards network expansion and modernization to build a technology and energy efficient network architecture to support the volumes and need for speed from customers.
The company is also providing free unlimited movie subscription through a partnership with Hungama Play along with a 4G connection.Further, Vodafone’s 4G customers would also be provided with free unlimited music streaming through Vodafone Music. All Vodafone 4G customers will get 100% extra data for 3 months, the company said.

The company, in a statement, said that it will increase the intensity of its 4G rollout covering important metros such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata in the first phase as testing of 4G services in these locations has already commenced successfully. Vodafone had successfully acquired 4G (LTE) spectrum in 5 circles-- Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Kerala and Karnataka in February 2014 auctions.
