Verizon announced a 24-month extension of its Global Network Solutions (GNS) contract with the US Department of Defense (DoD), pushing the contract's total value to over USD 98 million since its start in 2016. The purpose of the extension is to create a point-to-point connection within Southwest Asia that provides critical network communications capabilities for the US government, Verizon said in a statement this week.

Scope of Work

The scope of work aligns with DoD CIO mandates for the elimination of time division multiplexing (TDM), an exercise Verizon is performing across multiple federal agencies.

"Verizon's role in delivering a secure, point-to-point connection in the specified area highlights the Department of Defense's continued confidence in our ability to provide critical network communications in strategic regions," said Head of Verizon's defense business.

Verizon's Ongoing Partnership

Verizon said its ongoing partnership with the DoD includes a 10-year, USD 2.67 billion contract with the US Navy and three separate EIS awards, totalling nearly USD 1 billion, which involve upgrading the Pentagon’s network.
