Traini, a pet-tech generative AI startup, announced on Friday, January 3, 2025, that it had launched its v1.0 iOS app in November 2024 to enhance communication and care in the pet industry. The app, powered by a blend of artificial intelligence (AI) and emotional intelligence, enables pet parents to better understand and communicate with their dogs. Traini stated that it has been working in this field for two years and that its app offers a range of services to help pet parents manage their dogs' behaviour and emotional needs.

GenAI Dog-Human Language Translator
The startup claims the app's core feature, touted as the world’s first GenAI dog-human language translator, is designed to decode subtle pet sounds and emotions, facilitating empathetic interactions. Additionally, the app features PetGPT, an AI-powered chatbot that provides instant solutions to pet-related queries. Traini has also integrated social elements into its app, allowing users to share pet experiences through videos.
"We are pursuing pet emotional translation solutions with love and belief. Dogs’ language is also a natural language. If human language can be transformed from word to vector and understood by LLMs, why can't woof woof?" – said, Arvin Sun, CEO of Traini.
Key AI Technologies
At the heart of the app is PEBI (Pet Emotion and Behaviour Intelligence), which Traini describes as the brain of its dog-human language translator. This advanced model translates pet behaviour into understandable emotional states, identifying 12 distinct emotions in dogs, including subtle ones beyond basic emotions like happiness and fear. The model is powered by Traini's Semantic Space Theory, which quantifies emotional experiences and expressions using a database of over one million dog behaviours collected globally.
The app enables users to interact with their pets using natural language, offering emotional support and advice based on behavioural analysis. Traini employs Transformer architecture and k-nearest neighbour Voice Conversion (kNN-VC) to translate dog pictures, voices, and videos into human-readable formats. This multimodal approach enhances the accuracy and relevance of pet behaviour analysis, the company explained.

Market Opportunity
Traini says it is targeting the rapidly expanding global pet care market, which has surpassed USD 260 billion. The startup focuses on younger pet parents (Gen Z and Millennials) who prioritise personalised, data-driven services for their pets. Traini's app not only provides behavioral insights but also integrates social features.
With users across the US, Canada, Europe, and emerging markets in Africa and Latin America, Traini says it is well-positioned to make a global impact.
Competitive Advantage
The company says it is navigating the complexities of adapting human-based AI models for the unique behaviour of pets. This includes fine-tuning voice conversion models and behavioural analysis to account for breed-specific and regional differences. Meanwhile, Traini aims to build data by collecting naturally occurring behavioural data from pet parents and interacting with the product, which will improve its AI models over time.
Monetisation
The company says it currently generates revenue through app subscriptions and customised API offerings. In the near future, it plans to expand its B2B API services, enabling the integration of its AI technology into other pet-related products and services.
Traini claims its AI-driven emotional intelligence sets it apart from competitors. Using Transformer architecture and kNN Voice Conversion, the app provides precise behavioural analysis tailored to different dog breeds and regions.
"In the past two months, they have received invitations to use the API from more than 80 companies and independent developers around the world. This includes cooperation invitations from Nestle's Purina, NISSAN China, TikTok US, Hill's, TRANSSION, Tuya and other well-known companies, and even Apple has expressed strong interest in similar cooperation," the official release said.

Future Plans
Looking ahead, Traini plans to launch what it describes as the world's first cognitive wearable device for pets, designed to provide real-time emotional and behavioural insights, fostering a deeper connection between pets and their owners. The device will leverage Traini's AI model to interpret a pet's emotions, health needs, behavioural expressions, and reasoning, effectively giving pets a voice.
In addition, the company aims to develop smart hardware for pets, create AI companions to promote pet mental health, and offer AI-driven personalised recommendations for pet care services.
As a long-term goal, Traini envisions using its AI technology for pet medical diagnosis through real-time emotion translation, long-term emotional tracking, and diagnostic recommendations.
