The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced its decision regarding the transfer and shifting of telecom equipment by Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) in a bid to bolster the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in the Telecom sector. According to a notification released on Wednesday by the Ministry of Communications, telecom operators can now carry out such transfers with greater ease and efficiency.
Online Intimation Process
The DoT's latest notification grants TSPs the authority to shift or re-deploy their wireless equipment from one Licensed Service Area (LSA) to another as per their operational requirements. This development is noteworthy because prior intimation to the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) Wing is the only requirement for such transfers.
Formal approval from the Department for these equipment shifts is no longer necessary, streamlining the process for telecom operators and reducing hurdles.

Instead, TSPs need to inform the WPC Wing online through the Saral Sanchar portal, providing them with more flexibility and autonomy in managing their network resources.
While the online intimation system is being set up, TSPs may submit the details of their equipment shifting via email. However, this submission must be accompanied by a commitment to update the information through the online platform once it becomes available, according to the DoT's Notification.
Emphasis on Record Maintenance
Additionally, the notification emphasizes the importance of maintaining accurate records and necessary stock relating to the transfer of telecom equipment. This move is aimed at ensuring transparency and compliance in the industry.

By simplifying the process of shifting wireless equipment between LSAs, the government aims to facilitate smoother operations for telecom operators and encourage further investments in the rapidly expanding telecommunications industry.
