After launching 3G services in Tamil Nadu, now the Tata Sons’ owned telecom operator has launched 3G data packs for their GSM subscribers across the circle. Though the company doesn’t own any 3G licence to operate services in the market, they partnered with Vodafone to offer high speed data services to their 10 lakh customers in the southern state.
The company has launched 18 new 3G data packs starting from Rs 11 which offers 45 MB data for 1 day, while the 1 GB 3G data pack costs Rs 265 with a validity of 28 days. Those who spend more on data can recharge with Rs 475 to get 2 GB data with a validity of 4 weeks. However, these data packs from Tata Docomo are costlier than other networks because they have to pay premium charges to Vodafone for ICR arrangement. Even market leader Bharti Airtel offers 2 GB 3G data packs to their customers at Rs 200 - 250 as special offers, it seems Tata's 3G venture would not help it much in gaining a strong footing in the region where Airtel, Aircel & Vodafone are already dominating the data business.
