Samsung launched Galaxy Ace 4, Young 2, Core 2 and Star 2

Samsung used to be the company that got a strong hold of the smartphone market by launching a slew of budget droids. But the onslaught from a slew of Chinese and Indian companies globally meant that it started to lose ground in the entry level smartphone segments. In a bid to gain back the lost ground, it has just launched 4 new budget handsets named the Galaxy Ace 4, Young 2, Core 2 and Star 2 which are the successors of their yesteryear offerings. Let us take a look at their specifications:

  • 4 inch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels
  • 1.2 GHz/1 GHz dual core processor (4G/3G)
  • 1 GB/512 MB RAM (4G/3G)
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • 4 GB internal storage capacity which can be expanded by another 64 GB with the help of a microSD card slot
  • 5MP rear camera with LED Flash and a VGA front camera
  • 4G LTE/3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, aGPS with GLONASS
  • 1800 /1500 mAh battery (4G/3G)

The Galaxy Ace is the series which actually got the momentum going in the budget droid arena and the Galaxy Ace 4 will be trying to take that forth. It will be offered in the 3G only variant in India. It is expected to cost around Rs 8,000-10,000 in India.

  • 1.2 GHz quad core processor (probably Snapdragon 400)
  • 768 MB RAM
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • 4 GB of internal storage which can be expanded by another 64GB with a microSD card
  • 5MP primary camera with a LED Flash and a VGA front camera
  • 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with GLONASS and Dual SIM connectivity
  • 2000 mAh battery

The Galaxy Core 2 is expected to be priced similarly to its outgoing version and should get a sticker price of around Rs 10,000-12,000.

  • 3.5 inch display with a resolution of 320×480 pixels
  • 1 GHz single core processor
  • 512 MB RAM
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • 4 GB of internal storage which can be expanded by another 32GB with the courtesy of a microSD card
  • 3MP rear camera with no flash and front camera
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with GLONASS and Dual SIM connectivity
  • 1300 mAh battery

It will be an entry level device and should cost less than Rs 6,000 if Samsung wants to convince people to buy it. But over that, it wouldn’t be any value for money.

It shares all its specifications with the Young 2 but features a 2MP camera and misses out on 3G. Expect it to be priced in the sub Rs 4,500-5,000 price range.

All the smartphones are expected to be launched soon in India as it is one of the key markets for Samsung. Their pricing will be the key to their success. Let us see how Samsung does that.
