Music streaming services are slowly changing the way how people are listening to music in India, at least the younger crowd which is connected to the Internet. Saavn which is one of the fore-runners in this segment was being criticised for having a very legacy UI in its mobile apps. They had updated the iOS app to a new iOS 7 matching UI recently and now, they have updated its Saavn Music application for Android to version 3.0. It brings with it an all new Holo User Interface along with an redesigned app icon. It also brings access to Saavn Radio, new releases, top playlists and song of the day right away from the home screen which gets a tiled outlook.
You can see the complete album art when you open its music player. The 3.0 update brings better support and compatibility for different screen sizes. The UI has been optimised for tablets and entry level devices which have smaller screens.
Anurag Gupta, CTO and Co-founder of Saavn, at the announcement of the update said, “India is an Android-driven market, and 70% of Saavn’s listeners in India are on Android. We’re excited to deliver the best possible user experience to the majority of our listener base with this new app. It’s been carefully crafted to optimize the multiple screen experience, and to work seamlessly across a wide range of Android versions and hardware configurations.”
The music streaming service arena is still in its nascent stages in India due to lower internet speeds. With data consumption increasing and 3G costs going down, services like Saavn are surely going to be at the top in future.
