Blogs like Maktechblog and BGR India have reported that a number of Reliance Jio users have taken to social networks to complain about voice calls being cut at exactly the 30 minute mark. The development comes at a time when users are complaining about falling data speeds on Jio’s network across the country.

Reliance Jio’s website or app doesn’t mention the 30 minute cut-off time for voice calls. The 4G telco has been terming inadequate supply of interconnection capacity from India’s top telecom operators as the main reason for call congestion, resulting in call failures. Interconnection points enables mobile users to make calls to customers of other networks.

Notably, Reliance Jio’s latest data for November 7 showed that as call failures on its network came down at around 28% with India’s largest telcos, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular releasing additional points of interconnection (PoIs).

According to data, 8.5 crore out of about 30 crore call attempts by Jio’s users to the three operators failed on November 7. About 34% of the 13.81 crore call attempts made to Airtel from Jio failed, according to data. The failure rate on the Vodafone network stood at 26.7 percent out of 8.79 crore calls, while Idea network had the lowest call failure rate at 18.9 percent out of 7.48 crore calls.

Reliance Jio, which launched commercial operations on September 5 with the “Welcome Offer”, is offering free unlimited calls and 4GB data per day till December 31, 2016.
