Reliance Industries is working on an indigenous TV OS (operating system) and is planning to launch it commercially on TVs this Diwali. The OS is called Jio TV OS and it is powered by Google's Android. The OS from Reliance will be up against the likes of OS's created by LG, Samsung, Hisense, and more. All of these players apart from Reliance have been in the TV business (both hardware and software) for a long time. According to an ET report, Reliance may launch the OS commercially on TVs by the upcoming Diwali.
But it is not just the software, Reliance is also planning to launch its own 4K and HD television in India. These televisions will be powered by Jio TV OS and the company is entering into licensing agreements with other homegrown television manufacturers.

Reliance already sells Smart TVs under the Reconnect and BPL brands. But these are not the premium TV models. We could see more premium TVs from the brand in the future. The report also mentioned that Jio TV OS will help Jio in bundling its other apps such as JioCinema and drive revenue through advertising. The telco will also be able to bundle this with its broadband connections.

More details surrounding the same could surface during the upcoming Annual General Meet (AGM) of Reliance Industries Limited, expected to be held in August 2024. It is worth noting that Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Infocomm Limited, last year announced that Jio has been working on its own TV OS. At the time, Ambani hadn't shared any further details, but more should come to light at the upcoming AGM.
The report also said that Reliance won't charge any licensing fees for its OS as it wants the OS to become popular and widespread.
