OnePlus 5 Now Receiving OxygenOS 5.0.1 Update Based on Android Oreo, but Users Are Facing Issues With Airtel VoLTE

Follow Us

OnePlus is rolling out a new version of OxygenOS based on Android 8.0 Oreo to the OnePlus 5. The OxygenOS 5.0.1 version brings all the features introduced by OnePlus in the OxygenOS 5.0 build, which was pulled back recently because of a bug. Alongside the standard changes, OnePlus fixed a couple of other bugs to improve the overall stability of the new build. However, this update too comes with several bugs, and one of them is the lack of VoLTE support on Airtel network in India.

Firstly, as I stated, the update adds all the features of Android 8.0 Oreo which includes PiP mode, smart text selection, new notification toggles, etc. Here's the official changelog for the update from OnePlus:

  • Updated to Android O (8.0)
  • Launcher
    Optimizations for Shelf
Now you can upload your photo through Shot on OnePlus
  • Camera
    New Camera UI design
    Optimizations for photo quality
Added beauty effect for Portrait Mode
  • Gallery
Added “Places” tab for viewing photos on a map
  • Calculator
    Added history feature
  • Clock
    Added alarm calendar feature
  • System
    Added Parallel Apps feature
    New design for Quick Settings
New design for Lift up display
    Added “Adaptive model" screen calibration
    Optimizations for Wi-Fi
    Optimizations for Battery Saver
Updated Android security patch to December

And there are two more bug fixes in this build:

  • Bug fixes for third party camera application
  • Fixed network issues for European operators

This entire changelog and the update rollout is excellent, but a few of our readers stating that after the update installation on the OnePlus 5, they are unable to receive Airtel VoLTE service. This happened with the earlier OxygenOS 5.0 update too.

A TelecomTalk reader from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh district confirmed that he was able to use Airtel VoLTE on other supported devices such as Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Apple iPhone SE, but he was unable to latch onto Airtel VoLTE network on the OnePlus 5 after the OxygenOS 5.0.1 update. Having said that, the same person used Airtel VoLTE service on Android Nougat based OxygenOS ROM. The same scenario is with another reader from Hyderabad.

OnePlus may not have included the required network patches for Airtel VoLTE. Since the network patches for Airtel VoLTE is a device specific, we're assuming the services to be back in the next OxygenOS update. But for now, we recommend you not to install the OxygenOS 5.0.1 update on OnePlus 5 if you're an Airtel user and staying in any Airtel VoLTE supported region.

Thanks: Sri Rajasimha Reddy.
