MTNL to Launch Affordable Wi-Fi facilities at Public Places & Roaming Facility for Broadband Users in Mumbai

Mumbai's largest Broadband service provider MTNL plans to launch most affordable Wi-Fi Hot-Spot at public places such as airports, railway stations, malls, hotels and the upcoming Metro and Mono Rail stations across Mumbai and 'Roaming Facility' for its wire-line Broadband users.

Speaking with TelecomTALK, MTNL Mumbai ’s Executive Director, Peeyush Agrawal said that the "company is ready to bring most affordable Wi-Fi plans  to access high speed Internet at WiFi Hot Spots across Mumbai which will be launched within next 2 to 9 months." Mr Agrawal further added that “We will tie up with all popular Coffee houses, Restaurants, Hotels, Food courts in shopping Malls,Airports and railway stations. The MTNL's Wi-Fi will be completely secured. We will follow all regulatory norms to ensure data protection."

Roaming Facility on Wire-line - Broadband :

Apart from WiFi hot-spot, MTNL also plans to introduce "Roaming Facility" over Broadband services, wherein customer can access their Home or Office Broadband account on their smart-phones or laptop at all MTNL WiFi Hot Spot across the city. With this new facility existing MTNL Broadband customers can access hi speed Internet with unlimited downloads while on move for as low as just Rs.50 a month. The pricing is still being worked out.

According to Agrawal, "MTNL also plans to increase its ADSL Broadband customer base by about 2 lakh in Mumbai circle, presently MTNL has 5.7 lakh broadband users in Mumbai. However, one of the major issues that its facing is cable theft, that eventually makes numerous landlines goes dead. However We have introduced a cable theft circuit system. The moment anyone cuts off or tries to steal a cable, the system activates the circuit and rings an alarm at our control room. We can nab the culprit in minutes, it will help to improve service."
