Meizu on Sunday unveiled the latest version of its OS dubbed Flyme 7 alongside the launch of Meizu 15 smartphones. While the Meizu 15, Meizu 15 Plus and Meizu 15 Pro come with the latest OS out-of-the-box, the company is also rolling it out for other handsets. Meizu said that Flyme OS 7 is powered by the company's own Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based assistant called One Mind which is now "smarter than ever." The Flyme OS 7 brings in 300 new features and 1300 optimizations the company said in its forum. These new features range from bringing in more colours, changes in UI, smart AI features to faster facial recognition technology & more. It also gets new game modes, AI beautification, portrait backtracking, night mode and many other features.
The major update in the Flyme OS 7 is the facial recognition technology. The Face Unlock feature works in 0.1 seconds on the Meizu 15. In addition, there are several other changes to the cameras itself.
The AI Beauty Mode will apply correction and adjust itself based on your age, features and skin type. This feature also works in real time and can be even used in WeChat video calls. Then there’s Face backtrack wherein the camera takes several shots of your photo and allows you to pick the best among them.
The Flyme OS 7 also brings in new App Index which helps in the location of apps. This feature works by sliding your fingers on either side of the display. The new version of OS also can run apps in a small floating window, which will improve multitasking experience with some of the apps. The updated launcher, meanwhile lets you sort your apps in alphabetical order and you also can move icons with pixel-level precision.
The new Night Mode can be enabled in individual apps. This is better for detecting your surrounding and adjusting the hue accordingly. Interestingly, the app also brings in new Data Rescue feature. If any disaster strikes, you can rescue your phone data even if the screen is completely shattered. All you require is to hook it up to a PC and have a friend send you a special message to trigger the recovery mode.
