After its recent launch of ‘Broadband movies’ in association with Eros Now app, Hathway has struck another strategic partnership with an online video content provider for both live streaming and video on demand services. This time Hathway has partnered with the cross platform app ‘Ditto TV’.
Ditto TV is available on Android, iOS, windows phone and PC. It has more than 100 live TV channels along with catch up TV to watch Ad free recorded recent episodes of popular shows and thousands of Movies on demand. Hathway is offering a free 11 day trial for the app after which the subscriber can buy monthly subscription at Rs.160 or annual subscription at Rs.1225 which includes access to all channels and recorded and on demand content.
This free trial is available for subscribers of Hathway’s 50Mbps cable internet and they will receive the login details for the same on their registered mobile number when they register on Hathway’s site with their broadband account number.
We took Ditto TV for a test run on an Android phone and a Windows 8 PC, these are some of the Pros and cons we noticed.
Pros:
The app runs smooth without hanging or freezing on both the operating systems we tested it on and the video plays without buffering on Hathway Ethernet and WiFi connection.
There is a wide choice of live channels and movies on demand.
The TV schedule guide is comprehensive and well updated.
The streams play in full screen mode without hindrance of the app in the background.
Cons:
Most streams are in 4:3 aspect ratio which leaves ugly black straps on both sides of the picture on smartphones tablets and PC screens built for 16:9 aspect ratio.
Most streams are standard definition SD which do not give a very clear picture resolution
The entire Star TV bouquet is absent since Ditto TV was unable to strike a deal with Star group for hosting its video content.
The biggest drawback is that in spite of the partnership between Hathway Datacom and Ditto TV, the data usage by the app for streaming video content is deducted from your monthly data FUP cap, Ideally Hathway should bypass the data usage by this app from their data monitoring which is the norm with every IPTv service provider.
