In a major development, Beijing has instructed the custom officials to not allow NVIDIA H200 chips enter China. The H200 artificial intelligence (AI) chips from NVIDIA are the company's fhashpoints in the United States (US). Whether or not this ban would be moved in the future is unkown. NVIDIA is the world's largest chip maker, especially in the AI era. It is worth noting that there's strong demand for such chips by the Chinese firms. Some believe that this could be used as a bargaining tactic by China with the US government.
It is worth noting that the Trump administration had approved the chip to be exported to China this week. The Chinese government reportedly has communicated to the Chinese tech firms that it would only allow the H200 chips shipment in special circumstances such as for research and development (R&D) conducted in partnership at universities.

The US, in the past, has placed restrictions on NVIDIA from exporting its high-end chips to China for slowing down China's R&D in the AI and technological fields. In 2025, Trump had blocked the shipment of H200 chips to China, and had only approved the export of a much weaker H20 chip from NVIDIA. China eventually blocked the sale of H20 chip as well, leading to NVIDIA's market share in the world's second largest economy to a simple zero.
The H200 chips are six times more powerful than the H20 chips. Now China has blocked even the H200 chips from NVIDIA, and would reportedly only allow the chips under special circumstances mentioned above.
