Airtel strengthens its stronghold in Indian telecom space post auction

After the recent auction was concluded, Bharti Airtel now holds the largest amount of spectrum across airwaves in 2100MHz, 1800MHz and 900MHz. Airtel had spend a total of Rs 29,130.20 crore in the last auction. Telecom companies paid the upfront dues of spectrum auction

Telecom companies who acquired airwaves during the last month’s auction paid their upfront amount balance with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) by paying Rs. 18,000 crore. The deadline for the making the payments was Thursday. The seven operators, who won the bids had to pay an initial amount of Rs. 28,872 crore, with the rest in installments after a two-year moratorium. Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and Rjio pay Rs. 11,000 crore to government as part upfront payment in current fiscal

In the recently concluded sale of airwaves the three incumbent operators committed a sum in the range of 30,000 crore each for winning back their expiring spectrum in non-metro circles and also to acquire fresh spectrum for 4G services. Reliance communications becomes first operator to possess pan India contiguous 800MHz spectrum

Reliance communications have declared that in the recently concluded auction it has emerged as the only operator to now possess Pan India contiguous 800MHz spectrum upwards of 5MHz. The 800MHz band was the ‘Googly’ of the recently concluded auctions. Before this auction, no other operator had shown interest in bidding for spectrum in this band.
