But very soon, BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited), a state-run Indian telecom operator, is planning to launch Wi-Fi calling services for its customers. This will likely happen once 4G is available in most parts. BSNL has confirmed that it will complete the 1 lakh 4G sites rollout target by June 2025. Post that the telco also plans to upgrade some sites to 5G.

Wi-Fi calling support is in almost every new phone today. It allows consumers to have a better experience in areas/zones where there is no deep network coverage. This is something Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have been offering for a long time now. But given that BSNL didn't have 4G so far, it wasn't possible for the telco to deliver VoWi-Fi.
