CelcomDigi Partners with Borneo Restu to Expand Internet Access in Sarawak
Malaysian operator CelcomDigi has partnered with Sarawakian telecom infrastructure specialist Borneo Restu to enhance high-speed internet access across Sarawak under the Point of Presence (PoP) Phase 2 project, supporting the state's ongoing digital transformation strategy. The PoP Phase 2 project is designed to improve connectivity across Sarawak, focusing on expanding internet access in both suburban and rural areas, particularly in schools, CelcomDigi said in a joint statement.

Partnership for Digital Growth

At the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony to formalise the partnership, CelcomDigi said, "This partnership is a significant step in the development of Sarawak’s digital infrastructure. By joining forces, we aim to facilitate better digital access and ensure that the enhanced connectivity benefits all Sarawakians. We look forward to a long-standing partnership with Borneo Restu, delivering the PoP Phase 2 project and exploring additional initiatives to accelerate Sarawak's digitalisation efforts."

"We remain committed to expediting the completion of the remainder of the project by the end of 2025," added Borneo Restu.

PoP Phase 2 Project

The Ministry of Communications allocated RM 3.9 billion last year for the PoP Phase 2 project, covering 3,693 sites nationwide, with RM 1.08 billion allocated for 681 sites in Sarawak.

CelcomDigi said it is also involved in the SMART600 project, which aims to improve digital connectivity in rural Sarawak. Currently, the company's 4G coverage in populated areas of Sarawak stands at 90 percent.
