National Anthem Can Not Be Set As Caller Tune Says DoT

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed service providers not to offer the India's national anthem "Jana Gana Mana" as a caller tune as it was a violation of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.

According to statement issued by the DOT related to National Anthem under its order no.800-43/2010-VAS "The National Anthem as Ring Back Tune/Caller Tune do not comply with the prevention of insult to National Honour Act and executive instructions relating to National Anthem."




"The licensees are hereby directed to ensure that services provided by them comply with provisions of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 and executive orders. Any violation of the same shall be taken as violation of the terms and conditions of the licence"
