The latest offering from the Chinese phone maker is dubbed Vivo Y83 and aside from the new chipset comes with a full-screen bezel-less display with a notch on top and premium all-glass design. Unlike the previous offering from Vivo, the Y83 was announced silently in its home country without much fanfare. Aimed at youth, the device comes in Aurora white, Polar Black and Red colour options.

It is a lower mid-range smartphone and features a large 6.22-inch IPS display with HD+ resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels and 19:9 screen aspect ratio. Onboard the Y83 is a MediaTek Helio P22 chip which comes with octa-core processor. It comes with eight Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz each and manufactured using the 12nm FinFet process. The chip also features MediaTek’s Neuropilot tech which comes with support for TensorFlow, TF Lite, Caffe and Caffe 2.

The processor itself is paired with 4GB LPDDR3 RAM and as well as 64GB of internal storage. The device also supports storage expansion up to 256GB with microSD card slot. The phone delivers dual SIM slot, and interestingly there is a separate tray for SD card, meaning you won’t have to sacrifice any of SIM slots for microSD card.

In terms of camera, the Vivo Y83 features is a single 13MP f/2.2 aperture camera on the rear with LED flash. Besides, there’s an 8MP sensor on the front that’s backed by a solid AI tech and a face recognition algorithm. The smartphone, in fact, misses out the fingerprint scanner and depends entirely on Face Unlock as the primary mode of security.

Vivo includes a decently large 3260mAh battery inside the device. On the software side of things, the Y83 runs Vivo’s custom FunTouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. As for the price, the Vivo Y83 starts at 1498 Yuan (approx. Rs 16000). The smartphone is already up for sale on Vivo online store in China and comes bundled with a free protective case and earphones within the box.
