Motorola is going through a tough phase under Lenovo; Ever since the latter took hold of the former, things changed drastically, although unofficially. And now, things are going to change officially, at least in the software department. To much fanfare, Motorola yesterday unveiled the Moto G6 and Moto E5 lineup at an event in Brazil. While the devices didn't inspire, things are going to be even worse for the Motorola fans as the company has confirmed that it won't be seeding monthly security patch updates for the newly launched Moto G6 and Moto E5 devices.
As reported by Ars Technica, Motorola will deliver one major update to the Moto G6 lineup that includes Moto G6, Moto G6 Play and the Moto G6 Plus. But the same was not guaranteed for the Moto E5 lineup as the company has confirmed that the devices may not receive a platform update. The Moto E5 lineup includes- Moto E5, E5 Plus and the E5 Play. It is also said that the software support for the Moto E5 lineup will end within 6 to 12 months.
To make the things, even more, worse, Motorola stated to the publication that it won't deliver monthly security patch updates to the smartphones. Instead, the security updates will arrive for every 60-90 days. So, there you go folks, Motorola has now confirmed that it isn't any more interested in delivering software updates like it used to do earlier.
It's been going for a while now. Since the start of 2017, Motorola did not release software updates to the Moto G5 lineup, which was followed by the Moto G5S devices too. The Moto X4 was the only device which received a platform update from the list of Motorola devices released in 2017 because in some countries, Motorola released an Android One version of the Moto X4. So, the regular variant also received the update in some countries such as India.
But if we consider other Motorola devices such as the Moto G5 Plus, Moto G5S Plus, they're yet to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update. Let us know what you think about Motorola's decision on software updates.
