Bharti Airtel has a Rs 549 tariff plan which is completely in-line with Reliance Jio's all-new Rs 509 tariff plan it unveiled yesterday. Airtel Rs 549 is open for all prepaid customers under the Airtel Prepaid Promise scheme, and it offers 3GB data per day for 28 days from the date of recharge. So, overall Airtel is also providing 84GB data for the validity period which is the same data offering as the 4G entrant.
On the whole, Airtel is giving 3GB data per day, unlimited voice calls without any FUP, and 100 SMS per day for 28 days. If we compare the same plan with that of Reliance Jio's modified Rs 509 tariff plan, it also offers 3GB data per day, 100 SMS per day, and unlimited voice calls to any network in the country without any FUP.
Earlier, Jio used to offer 2GB data per day for 49 days from the date of recharge, but the company yesterday revised to plan to match Airtel's offering. Airtel, in December 2017 modified the Rs 549 tariff from 2.5GB data per day to 3GB data per day. Sadly, both the plans from these top operators are valid for 28 days itself.
However, Jio's tariff plan costs slightly lesser than that of Airtel, but this has been the case since the operator's entry back in September 2016. Jio promised that it would be marginally ahead of competitors when it comes to tariff plans in terms of pricing and in terms of data offering. Mukesh Ambani stated that Jio will always be offering 20% more data than other telecom operators.
Jio also made a massive change to the Rs 799 tariff plan by offering 5GB data per day. It's interesting to see how Airtel takes up this challenge. Having said that, expect a counterattack from Airtel very soon for the Jio's new tariff plans.
