The much anticipated Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus smartphones by Lenovo have finally hit the shelves in India yesterday. The new special-edition Moto G handsets were unveiled globally a few weeks ago while the older Moto G5 and the Moto G5 Plus were launched in the country back in the month of June this year.
In this article, we will be comparing the Moto G5 Plus and the Moto G5S Plus, and help you decide which of these two is worth purchasing.
Design and Display
Evidently, the Moto G5S Plus and the Moto G5 Plus look very much alike. The only difference you will probably notice is the high-grade aluminium unibody that the G5S Plus boasts while the G5 Plus features an aluminium plate on the rear, with a plastic core frame. Both handsets support on-screen gestures and have a front-mounted fingerprint sensor embedded into the home-button.
The G5S Plus sports a 5.5-inch display with Full-HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution and the Moto G5 Plus comes with a smaller 5.2-inch display with the same resolution.
Software
In terms of software, the Moto G5 Plus runs on the Android 7.0 Nougat and the G5S Plus clearly takes the prize with the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system. Both devices offer similar connectivity options including Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS/A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, 4G LTE support, and micro-USB port. Sadly, both the devices have micro USB port itself.
Hardware
Both the smartphones are backed by a common 3,000mAh battery with TurboPower charging support. Under the hood, the older Moto G5 Plus, as well as the latest G5S Plus, are both powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor, however, both the devices differ when it comes to RAM and storage.
The Moto G5 Plus comes in two variants – one with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage and the other one with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Meanwhile, the Moto G5S Plus is available in a single 4GB RAM and 64GB storage option. It looks like Motorola has discontinued the 3GB/16GB variant of the Moto G5 Plus.
Cameras
The Moto G5S Plus offers an improved dual rear camera setup with two 13MP lenses, as opposed to the single 12MP shooter that the G5 Plus features. As for the selfie camera, the new-comer boasts an upgraded 8MP front-facing sensor with f/2.0 aperture while its older sibling, the Moto G5 Plus, houses a 5MP snapper with f/2.2 aperture.
Pricing
The Moto G5 Plus was initially launched at a price of Rs. 16,999 but is now having a cost-cut in the face of the newer model. The Moto G5 Plus (4GB RAM model) is now available for purchase at a reduced price of Rs. 14,999 across the country. On the other hand, the 4GB variant of the Moto G5S Plus has been placed on the table with a price tag of Rs. 15,999.
Verdict
Considering the display size, better camera, and newer version of Android OS, the Moto G5S Plus is newer and wins over its older counterpart. Even in terms of pricing, the Moto G5S Plus will likely cost you just a 1000 bucks extra.
