The descendant of the HTC One M8 from the last year is clearly under the build and it is reportedly codenamed as Hima. Though there is nothing new about it as we have been following this scoop from quite a while now and we have also witnessed couple of leaked specs for this device.
However, all those leaks did have one thing in common, that is, Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset for the Hima. But the latest reports (read: rumors) from China suggest that HTC might not employ the same chipset for every single country Hima will be sold in.
Seemingly, there are high prospects for HTC to employ the high performance MediaTek SoC for at least one version of the Hima. It may just be limited to the China-bound variation of the device, if not in more country bound variants.
According to the source of the report, there are high chances for this to happen. On the contrary, considering the past rumors based upon the Qualcomm silicon being used, we can assume that MediaTek version, whose existence is in question, will be confined to limited countries. Also, MediaTek SoC might be cheaper than the Qualcomm’s best, so HTC might take that route if it plans to compete neck to neck in the price-sensitive markets with other flagship from the Chinese smartphone manufacturers.
Phew, all being said, the news still stands on zero confirmation from HTC, so we should take it by a pinch of salt.
