BSNL today announced the launch of 'One Number, One Nation, One Rupee a Day' plan through a new roaming Special Tariff Voucher (STV), STV-90 that provides a validity of 90 days. This launch has come just five days after the launch of MTNL's roam free plan. We had then reported about BSNL introducing free roaming at Rs. 1 per day.

STV-90 offers free unlimited roaming all over India. The local and national outgoing calls made from roaming circle will be charged 1.5 p/sec. It must be noted that by activating BSNL's roaming STVs consumers will continue to enjoy the base plan tariffs in home circle. In addition to STV-90 other roaming STVs from BSNL are:

  1. STV-5: Unlimited incoming while in roaming, outgoing local/national @ 1.5 p/sec valid for a day
  2. STV-33: Unlimited incoming while in roaming, outgoing local/national @ 1.5 p/sec valid for 7 days
  3. STV-69: Unlimited incoming while in roaming, outgoing local/national @ 1.5 p/sec valid for 30 days

When you look into the three existing STVs, it is obvious that STV-90 is the best deal!

For those who need greater benefits while in roaming:

  1. Prepaid: RTP-FR-705 > This plan offers a validity of 180 days, provides free incoming calls while roaming plus (in both roaming/home every month)
    • 336 minutes free voice call
    • 100 free minutes free video call
    • 100 SMS free
    • 200 MB free data
    • further call charges at 0.80 p/min local/STD on-net and Rs. 1.00 per min local/STD off-net
  2. Postpaid: RTP-FR-149 > For a monthly rental of Rs. 149 the benefits available are
    • free unlimited incoming calls while roaming
    • 100 free minutes outgoing (local/STD)
    • 100 free SMS (local/national)
    • further calls at a uniform rate of Rs. 1.00/min

With this BSNL is set to bring out a revolution. The naming of the campaign is very apt, similar to the famous ONE INDIA CAMPAIGN where landline STD tariffs were brought down to Rs. 1 in the last decade. Do you think this is the start of a revolution in mobile roaming? Are there any better plans from any other operator? Let us know.
