Idea Cellular Extends Black-out Days to Voice Calls too Starting 2013

Aditya Birla promoted Idea Cellular has informed that now voice call rates will be as per with base tariff (ranging from 1.5p/sec to Rs 2/minute) on the Black out days.

As of now most operators charges SMS at base tariff – Re 1 for local and Rs 1.50 for National SMS on the black out days. But it seems Idea Cellular really crossed the limit and extended this anti-consumer policy on voice calls too.

In 2013 Idea will charge for voice and SMS at per base tariff on 1st January, 14th February, 4th August as Friendship day, Diwali – 2nd November and 31st December.

I must say this is really bad move by Idea Cellular, and expecting Airtel and Vodafone will follow soon. TRAI must take care of this as immediately as possible.

Please note it is only applicable for TN, GUJRAT, Bihar, Delhi,UP Circle.

I was going to Idea website and nowhere can see that calls would also be charged as per normal rates.. have browsed all the plans of the mentioned circles. I think this post needs a review..

It’s a really bad move. The market leaders creat when such a plans, all duos follow it must. Customers want to port out as they capable of doing it.

  • sandeep December 25, 2012 11:21 am

This is very bad news for me and for idea costumers . If they do this then the other will also follow this .
TRAI should stop this and give some guidelines regarding this black out days…..

  • raju December 25, 2012 10:41 am

Guess soon all operators will follow the same in all circles. If it is one india one plan then why discriminating between circles? All are equal before law :) I’m surprised to know that bsnl started this!!! DOT,TRAI are not going to do anything…I bet.

  • Tushar Gaikwad December 24, 2012 11:21 pm

A move that seems to be co-ordinated by the telecom cartel comprising of Idea, Airtel and Vodafone…

Other operators cash on in the opportunity…. BSNL and Uninor rock !!

  • abkumar December 24, 2012 8:52 pm

    Bullshit !!!!

  • Sinoj December 24, 2012 4:29 pm

  • Jagan T December 24, 2012 11:45 am

Soon expect charges for incoming calls also.

  • avis December 24, 2012 11:45 am

Very soon these looting telcos would charge for all incoming calls on the black out days. So they making none to make or receive calls on these days. . .

  • PRAKASH WADEYAR December 24, 2012 10:29 am

    WHAT AN IDEA SIR’JI?

  • Esmail December 24, 2012 10:27 am

Because of these unjust moves by telcos the subscribers are migrating to alternatives like whatsapp for messaging and VoIP apps like Viber for calling. Now after SMS and voice call base tariffs on black out days, its only a matter of time before they will extend the black out to data as well, charging base tariff of 10p/10KB, to make sure the subscriber has no way to escape their clutches and no place to hide from their reign of tyranny.

  • Wangsuk Dapru December 24, 2012 10:18 am

TRAI allows 5 blackout days, which have to be decided at the start of the year and the same needs to be communicated to customers. So far, only BSNL was charging for calls are base rate along with base rate SMS on blackout days. Though its within the TRAI rules, Pvt Operators are now thinking of making more money…the whole concept of Blackout day introduced by TRAI must be abolished as it is customer unfriendly… to avoid SMS misuse/abuse, rather reduce the daily capping of 100 SMS to a lower figure (25-30 maybe) on these blackout days.

  • Rajesh Kumar December 24, 2012 8:52 am

Already idea increased the rate cutter from Rs.22 to Rs.42 and validity from 90days to 30days…
Idea became shit in planning for revenue….

  • Jaweed Abdul December 24, 2012 12:42 am

what a new year GIFT sirji

  • siva Tiruchendur December 24, 2012 12:14 am

idea got spectrum for continue their service in Tamilnadu.. it’s the new year gift.. Already bsnl collecting base tariff for sms and calls on blackout days..

  • Krishnendu December 23, 2012 11:53 pm

In westbengal, idea has increased default local sms charges from 0.60p to Re1.00 and national sms charges to Rs.1.50

  • soumya December 23, 2012 11:40 pm

SEEING ALL THIS AND AREVISED TARIFF FROM OTHER OPERATOR SEEMS THAT ROAM FREE INDIA( FREE NATIONAL ROAMING) WONT COME BEFORE MIDWAY OF 2013 OR EVEN BE POSTONED…. 1ST NEWS CAME THAT FROM 1ST JAN 13 , ROAMING BE WILL FREE, 2ND NEWS MAY BE MARCH… DONT KNOW WHATS HAPPENING…

  • Raghu December 23, 2012 11:24 pm

What is this Idea doing. Consumers did a big mistake by not complaining in Supreme Court/Consumer Court/TDSAT for high charges of SMS during Blackout days thats why IDEA HAS COME UP WITH THIS EXTENDING BLACKOUT DAYS FOR CALLS AS WELL. THIS HAS to be 100% challenged in Supreme Court/TDSAT for this anti-consumer move. On one hand they say free roaming and these operators are offering higher rates to make up for that roaming charges. really quite bad. i do not know why govt/TRAI/DOT is keeping quiet on these hikes.

  • Arif December 23, 2012 10:58 pm

Now real use of dual SIM card phone. Use any other SIM who is not charging extra on blackout days.

  • Arif December 23, 2012 10:56 pm

Charge for incoming calls and SMSs on blackout days.
    Good Idea.

  • umesh December 23, 2012 10:40 pm

i received a sms from BSNL Stating that ” all your call and sms will charged as per base plan no concessional rates applicable on christmas/newyear”
    never expeced this from bsnl

  • Kaulik December 23, 2012 10:28 pm

    Hello! Hunny Bunny!!!

    • Chetan December 24, 2012 6:22 pm

HA HA HA :D :D Great one :D

  • Sid December 23, 2012 10:12 pm

It’s Strategy of all telecom companies, TRAI n DOT to hike 2G charges to promote 3G/4G more prominently… Forcefuly enable people to use data communication for communication by Skype like apps…
Also intenssion of Govt. to help selling of 3G enabled Handsets of companies… as congress said, It will give mobiles to BPL population n promote AKASH Tablet…

    • Rudradeep Biswas December 25, 2012 2:08 am

the more tariff hike on voice n sms front, RIL Infotel will get happier than ever. they can offer unlimited voice calls within network over LTE netwrk by Spirit’s vvoip engine!!

  • Tanveer December 23, 2012 9:59 pm

Sirjee, how about charging for incoming SMS too. This you must try for 2014.

  • Lolappan Kannur December 23, 2012 9:04 pm

Really this is looting the public, public also loot them by leaving their service

  • BP Singh December 23, 2012 8:04 pm

Private Operators (Idea) except BSNL starting minting money from innocent public through various means & ways. One extra Single Rupee spent daily by one customer on these unnecessary hike yields around 10-20 Crores of income (Profit) daily to these Private Mobile companies. Pls Beware & Be Aware of such moves..!!

  • Kanaga Deepan N December 23, 2012 7:23 pm

Actually BSNL is the first one to start this trolling…

Also I heard that they will be charging for 2G/3G data also as per base tariff at Rs15/MB… So this is a nice idea to suck the FULL balance from the customers…

As usual TRAI and DoT are counting the currencies in the suitcases…

  • vikas December 23, 2012 7:02 pm

IDEA FOR WHAT , ITS CONSPIRACY.
ONCE YOU TELL YOU ARE FAIR AND THEN YOU CONSPIRE AGAINST THEM.

    BAD IMPRESSION ON FUTURE CUSTOMERS.

  • RAHUL December 23, 2012 6:36 pm

Why only charge base tariff (ranging from 1.5p/sec to Rs 2/minute) on the Black out days charge for incoming also. That would be GREAT IDEA SIRJEE… Now people have to start using skype, viber n whatsapp on these days to save their balance.

    • Saket.Savarn December 23, 2012 8:06 pm

No doubt Rahul.. Infact i’m using Skype on regular basis and promoting my friends to do so since 2007 when call rates were high..

And +1 for ur sugassion for charged incoming.. Lolz
      what an idea sir ji..

  • dr.who December 23, 2012 6:26 pm

“Please note it is only applicable for TN, GUJRAT, Bihar, Delhi,UP Circle.”…it’s ok :)

  • S.Sudhakar December 23, 2012 6:23 pm

I have comfirmed from IDEA customer care (Tamilnadu) now. They said only SMS will be charged at base tariff on :

    > New year
    > Valentine day
    > Friendship day
    > Deepaavali
    > 31st December

They told that voice and data will be charged according to the booster pack (if enabled).

  • ddd232 December 23, 2012 6:11 pm

    Pathetic….it is a violation of rules…trai step in…people complain….

  • CS December 23, 2012 6:01 pm

    Really a bad idea.

  • Amit Karmakar December 23, 2012 5:33 pm

Charge for data tariff also. Disgusting. Nowadays operators are sucking the blood of the customers. Telecom industry seems no longer a lucrative business these days.

  • shashee December 23, 2012 4:59 pm

aircel best in india and loop mobile is also best go for it

  • subhro December 23, 2012 4:30 pm

if we don’t make calls at reduced rate on blackout days thn what is the meaning of STV???it will not make anny sense on these days..thn mobile will become useless perticularly on these days..
idea is now promoting these on some circles right now..hope we’ll see it on every circles by every operators unless govt. &TRAI intervene into it..
such a faltu decision by this company (ies).

  • shanoj December 23, 2012 4:22 pm

now its time to port out of idea…

  • RajeeV December 23, 2012 4:08 pm

What AN BAD !dea Sir ji

  • Chethan S. December 23, 2012 4:06 pm

BSNL has been doing this (charging base plan rates for calls and SMS) for at least an year now. Reduced charges on Friends & Family numbers and STV based tariffs don’t work on blackout days.

Few years ago BSNL was not even observing blackout days – be it for SMS or calls.

  • saiesh December 23, 2012 4:04 pm

Hats off to idea, to bring all innovative idea. Please charge incoming calls and sms on balckout days one more innovative idea

    • dr.who December 23, 2012 6:24 pm

      LOL :D

    • mr. N December 23, 2012 11:49 pm

also they can think of charging 5 rs per hour of sim card active time ;)

      • Nandlal December 24, 2012 12:22 pm

Yes i agree to you, they should charge for being on their network too.
