agree with you. Then i feel they should be not saying we are doing Social initiatives. What do u think? They have to be on PAR with Private Operators. No other choice for them as otherwise they will go into further losses in their mobile business.

    WTF… Local calls @ 1p/2sec for Rs35/month and Local calls @ 30p/min for Rs65/month????

May be BSNL people misplaced their calculators when planning for this STV launch… LOL…

i really do not know why BSNL is not offering rates on Par with Private Operators.

…For the simple reason – the PSU staff get salaries on the last working day of the month from the revenue account with no checks and balances, while private players are very much particular and make profits !

    To Pike :
Yes. But you may get error message that the MNP port out request is rejected. But the port out process will continue in the background as said by uninor CC. I have faced such issue yesterday. But still waiting for port out (to docomo) process to complete.

Better port out now itself before it is too late. Or else you will lose your number because port out will take 7 days or more from the date of submitting the proof at the distributor directly (not the retail or small stores who just sell the SIM and recharge). If you give it MNP request to small retail store, it will take more tome to port out.

    Here is the method :

    Customer –> Distributor —> Company

Customer —> Small retail shop —> intermediate person (of any) —> Distributor —> Company

You yourself decide which is the shortest path.

Call the customer care, nodal officer or appellate authority of the destination operator to find the details of the local distributor there.

yes agreed with you….(as per i know)for every NEW plan or STV they need permission from delhi DOT office, and those who gives the permission are back hand tied up with external factors (actually looks other interest)……..so as a result all process of BSNL are sluggish and new initiatives almost banned…..

    To Pike :
Reliance GSM also has tower sharing agreement with Aircel to provide coverage in non coverage areas (like Tata docomo which also has tower sharing agreement with Aircel and Videocon which also shares Tata docomo tower) by which you can make calls at no extra cost. Choose MANUAL network setting. Wait for the networks to appear. Then choose AIRCEL.
    In Tamilnadu :
    > Reliance GSM* shares Aircel tower.
    > Tata docomo* also shares Aircel tower.
    > Videocon** shares Tata docomo tower (but does not work in all non coverage areas).
    > IDEA** shares Vodafone tower (but does not work in all non coverage areas).
    * – Normal calling and GPRS rates will continue if you are using the other network’s signal within the state using the home network SIM.
** – Call rates will not be charged according to the booster pack. Call rates will be more if logged into some other network within the state using the home network SIM.

Great info.. ! Thanks for sharing !
By the way, is tat good to switch from uninor to reliance gsm in chennai ? I’m in uninor at present !

    To Pike (Chennai) :

    Visit : rcom.co.in/Rcom/personal/prepaid/PlansandPacks.html
Click plan voucher on the left (for the circle names to display). Then choose the circle. Then click plan voucher again. Look at the benefits of Rs.74.

Note : I think the special tariff vouchers are going on as usual (no change). But the STV 74 may be limited offer.

You can simply recharge your Reliance GSM number with Rs.74 and get these benefits :
(Pulse rate for all calls : 1 minute)
    > All on net calls eithin the state at Rs.0.05.
    > All offnet calls within the state at Rs.0.30.
    > All STD calls (outside the state) at Rs.0.60.
    > All India SMS at Rs.0.05 per SMS from the first SMS itself (no conditions)
    > 500MB 2G data per month (not cumulative) for 6 moonths.
    > Full talk value (remaining talk value will be credited after some time) of all topups of Rs.10 and above for 6 months.

    >> ALL THESE BENEFITS (except GPRS data) ARE VALID FOR 180 DAYS.

I am talking about the trends in the Tamilnadu circle (all existing operators).
Yes. Docomo Tamilnadu is giving the benefit of on net calls at Rs.0.01 for 6 seconds and off net calls at Rs.0.005 per second (ALL CALLS WITHIN TAMILNADU) and all STD calls at Rs.0.012 per second for Rs.35 which is valid for 90 days.
Note that this is the only juice up pack in docomo which offers even local landline calls at Rs.0.005 per second and even STD landline calls at Rs.0.012 per second. Docomo may change anytime.
See Videocon’s landline calling rate. It is Rs.0.018 per second (or Rs.1.08 per minute) !!!. Airtel also has increased all landline calls and now it is charged at Rs.0.020 per second !!!.
BSNL is still costly (compared to docomo) till docomo continues its Rs.35 juice up pack without changes. If docomo increases the call charges, then I think BSNL’s Rs.35 STV will become cheaper.
But if you do not call landline, then you can go for Off net mobile calls at Rs.0.30 per minute plan in IDEA (STVs of Rs.22, Rs.68 etc), Reliance GSM (through Rs.74 plan voucher) and Videocon (Rs.25 STV gives all local mobile calling at Rs.0.25 per minute and Rs.77 STV gives all India mobile calls at Rs.0.30 per minute).

what about Reliance gsm in TN ? Coverage and tariff ?

In kerala i dont know abt airtel but on docomo u get this at 81 rs for 3 months. However 1st call of the day is at 1.5p/s.Also in aircel the local at 1p/2s means the calls to landline will be charged at 1.2p/s or 1.5p/s as per the latest base tariffs.I dont think the offer from bsnl is that bad.Atleast they are coming up with such STVs at a reasonable price.
