Vodafone the second largest operator by subscriber base may be launching its own 3G network in Karnataka circle starting from Tumkur city today, as revealed to TelecomTalk by inside sources familiar with the matter.
Vodafone had won fresh 2100MHz spectrum in the 5 circles of Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, UP West and Assam in the March 2015 auctions which it is yet to use for commercial deployment. Until now Vodafone had been using Airtel's 3G network through ICRA in Karnataka circle.
Earlier this month we had reported that Vodafone is strengthening its 3G network in 790 towns in Gujarat circle. The telecom operator is taking every effort to strengthen its network presence in the country and to reduce dependence on other operator's network. Now with the passing of spectrum trading and sharing guidelines by the cabinet these operators have a better chance at beefing up their spectrum holding and improving the quality of service by better utilisation of spectrum and decongesting of their networks.
