Vodafone Idea Enhances 4G Capacity by 150 Percent in Bihar and Jharkhand

Vodafone Idea Enhances 4G Capacity by 150 Percent in Bihar and Jharkhand
Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced a 150 percent increase in 4G capacity across Bihar and Jharkhand, aiming to boost coverage and data speeds. Following its FPO in April, Vi has been heavily investing in improving its network infrastructure to deliver enhanced voice and data services through its Vi GIGAnet, the company said in an announcement on Thursday.

Redeployment of 3G Spectrum to 4G

As part of this network upgrade, the third-largest operator in India has redeployed 3G spectrum to 4G in the 2100 MHz band across 3,400 sites, including Begusarai, Bettiah, Darbhanga, Biharsharif, Bodhgaya, Dehri, Gopalganj, Hajipur, Madhubani, Motihari, Nawada, Hazaribagh, Jamshedpur, Deoghar, and Bokaro.

Vi has expanded its 1800 MHz spectrum bandwidth across 4,300 sites, including Patna, Dhanbad, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Gaya, Bokaro, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Purnia, Begusarai, Arrah, Munger, and Chapra. The company also said it has doubled the 2500 MHz band's capacity to 20 MHz in high-usage areas like Patna, Arrah, Gaya, Motihari, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, and Darbhanga.

Enhanced Spectrum Bandwidth

These improvements have resulted in a 35 percent boost in data speeds for customers in Bihar and Jharkhand. Vi stated it is also advancing its core network for 5G readiness, including e-SIM benefits, enhanced VoLTE, and VoWiFi.

Retail Expansion

The company has expanded its retail presence in the state, with over 180 stores, including Vi Stores, Vi Shops, and Vi Mini Stores, and an extensive distribution network with over 680 distributors and 37,000 recharge outlets.

Speaking on these developments at the event, Abhijit Kishore, Chief Operating Officer of Vi, said: "Bihar and Jharkhand are our top priorities, and we are committed to investing here to ensure that our customers enjoy the best experience and services. We are focused on expanding 4G coverage and enhancing data capacity to meet customers’ growing needs."

"As customer demand for more choices increases, the Vi App now offers a wide range of services, including games, entertainment, utility bill payments, and more. Given the popularity and growth potential of OTT services, Vi is expanding its OTT bundled portfolio. Currently, we offer OTT bundles with Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLiv, Zee5, and SunNxt, with more partnerships coming soon," Abhijit added.
