TRAI network quality drive test result for Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Pune and Surat

TRAI recently conducted network quality drive test for Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Pune and Surat cities during July to September 2015 period. The test was conducted to measure coverage rate, call completion success rate and voice quality for each operator in these circles. Independent testing agencies IMRB and TUV SUD were tasked to conduct these test for TRAI.

It was observed that following operators has not met benchmarks set by TRAI.
Voice quality: Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, TATA GSM and Reliance GSM for Indoor. Aircel, Airtel, BSNL, Idea, Relaince CDMA & GSM, TATA CDMA & GSM and Vodafone for outdoor.

Call Completion Success Rate(CCSR): Aircel, Airtel and Reliance CDMA for indoor. Aircel, Reliance GSM, TATA CDMA & GSM and Vodafone for outdoor.




Call Drop Rate: Airtel for indoor. Aircel, Airtel, BSNL, Reliance CDMA, TATA CDMA and Vodafone for outdoor.

Kolkata

The following operators has not met TRAI set benchmarks in Kolkata city.

Voice quality: Aircel, Airtel, BSNL, Idea, Reliance GSM, TATA GSM and Vodafone for outdoor.

Call Completion Success Rate(CCSR): Aircel, Airtel, BSNL, Idea, Reliance CDMA & GSM for outdoor.

Call Drop Rate: Aircel, Airtel, BSNL, Reliance CDMA, TATA CDMA & GSM and Vodafone for outdoor.

Pune

Coverage rate

RF Coverage relates to the geographical footprint within the system that has sufficient RF signal strength to provide for a call/data session. The Cove-rage rate of an operator is calculated basis of % of samples in which the Rx level is better than -85 dbm.

Vodafone had the highest coverage rate in the city with 97.74% followed by Idea 97.32%. While TATA and BSNL manged to attain 93.79% and 93.08% respectively. Reliance had the lowest coverage rate at 69.21%. Aircel and Airtel got 83.15% and 80.59% coverage rate respectively.

In Surat, Idea was ranked no:1 with 98.73% coverage rate followed by BSNL 93.50% coverage rate. Vodafone and Airtel got 89.80% and 90.72% coverage rate respectively. Reliance had the lowest coverage rate at mere 21.69%, while TATA achieved 78.47%.

BSNL observed that overall performance of BSNL network in terms of coverage rate, call completion success rate and voice quality were comparable to that of private operators. BSNL further said that these test results reveal poor quality of service was not the reason behind BSNL's poor revenue and low customer acquisition.
