Recently we brought to you the news of Vodafone publishing a disclosure report which stated that governments of certain countries had access to the telecom consumption of its users. India was one of the names on the list and the telecom ministry is now working on the preparation of an internal report regarding the matter to check the authenticity of the claim.
The internal report will be placed in front of the new Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for taking the matter forth. BJP was the opposition when the issue first came to light and it had questioned the UPA government regarding it having access to the telephone lines of other politicians. Now with BJP coming in power, it will surely be going into the depth of the matter reports B.S .
Vodafone has stated that direct wires were linked to its network which allowed the state agencies to listen and record the conversations and at the same time, know about the location of the users. Vodafone has brought the matter to light and the government will surely act upon this. Will other operators follow suite? That remains to be seen.
