MOBILE TARIFFS TO COME DOWN,TRAI CHOPS CALL TERMINATION CHARGES

Indian Telecom regulator TRAI today slashed call termination charges by 33 per cent, a move which would result in bringing down the mobile tariffs for consumers. Termination charges are paid by one operator to another on whose network the call ends.The regulator has reduced the termination charges on local calls to 20 paise a minute from existing 30 paise. INTERNATIONAL CALL TO INDIA MAY COST MORE

International or Overseas calls to India are likely to become more expensive. Four leading operators Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar, Idea Cellular and  Aircel met telecom regulator Trai last week, seeking approval to charge foreign telcos more for terminating overseas calls into India. VODAFONE BLOCKS MyToday SMS SERVICE

MyToday SMS service has run into yet another blockade this time from Vodafone.Vodafone has blocked the short code 575758 so that subscribers can’t request or receive sms from 575758. Earlier Airtel had blocked MyToday SMS service quoting the service do not comply with telecom regulations in November 2008.Vodafone's initial remark has been that MyToday service do not entail with Trai's National Do Not Call (NDNC) regulations. TRAI Warns Telecos,Give Quality Service Or Ready To Face Penalties

Telecom companies that provide below-par services could face penalties with telecom watchdog TRAI considering initiating steps to closely monitor the quality of services offered to customers. According to TRAI chairman Nripendra Misra, the penalty could be levied for services not conforming to the minimum established standards relating to ''quality of service to customers''.
