Manorama, one of the leading newspapers in Kerala, has reported that Reliance Jio will start its 4G services in Kerala on 28th December 2014. As per the report this will be part of the pilot launch of its 4G services throughout the country.
Initially the service will be available in select cities in each circle which would later be extended to other cities before the mid of next year. Reliance has chosen December 28th as its launch date which also the birthday of Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani.
Reliance Jio is building its infrastructure across 5000 towns and 600,000 villages in the country at an aggressive pace. It has signed deals with almost every tower company to get access to over 288,000 towers countrywide. Its 4G LTE network will be capable of offering speeds up to 49Mbps which is almost 12 times the average 3G speeds.
Reliance Jio has unified license and will be offering voice service along with its data service. The company has pan-India airwaves in the 2300 MHz band. Recently, it also acquired 1800Mhz band in 14 circles and will use both bands for 4G service. As per roll-out obligations, service should be launched before May 2015.
