Reliance Communications is launching India’s first cell novel “Deaf Heaven”. Written by National Award winning writer, Pinki Virani, the entire novel will be condensed into a pack of 90 SMSes. RCOM will make this novel available through a sms subscription pack especially created for this purpose. Those subscribing to the special pack of “Deaf Heaven” will receive the entire novel thru a series of SMSes spread over a period of 30 days.
Everyday, the subscriber will get to read the novel thru 3 SMSes. RCOM plans to make this special pack available by early-August.The literary cell novel planned by RCOM is a first such offering by any telecom operator in India. RCOM plans to launch the cell novel in early August.
The cell novel is part of RCOM’s strategy to drive its VAS leadership through innovations.
The company has pioneered some of the best known innovations in the Indian telecom sector including mobile gaming, live streaming of cricket matches etc. As part of this innovative plank, the company is also in talks to offer F1 Racing live on R-World.Reliance also plans to convert “Deaf Heaven” into an Adult audio mobile book. The Audio book will be available on a Multimodal number. The company is currently working with the national award winning author to develop prompts for the Audio novel.
Commenting on the new VAS innovation, Mr Krishna Durbha, Head – VAS, Reliance Communications said, “Our cell phone novel will introduce an interesting element to how novels are read; readers will get the entire book condensed into a few SMSes. The concept that a novel can also be 'read' via SMS and 'heard' at any time via voice portals is itself an unique & innovative idea. Similar to the e-book, its mobility and anytime access is a convenience that may help grow readership of such novels.
