One New Zealand has announced a significant enhancement to its 5G network, delivering faster speeds and an improved mobile experience for its customers. Through a comprehensive re-tuning of its entire network, One New Zealand has optimized the utilization of the recently allocated 5G spectrum by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).
Faster Speeds and Improved Mobile Experience
With this upgrade, One New Zealand's 5G customers can now enjoy a permanent speed boost of up to 30 percent.

One New Zealand expressed enthusiasm for the improved network performance, stating, "This awesome upgrade means faster social media, gaming, and HD streaming - more of what our customers love to do on their mobile devices."
According to the statement, in extensive testing, One New Zealand achieved download speeds of up to 1.4 Gbps. To put this into perspective, One NZ said it is now possible to download a typical HD movie in approximately 15 seconds, demonstrating the blazing-fast capabilities of the upgraded network.
Network Re-tuning for Enhanced Performance
One NZ says the re-tuning process has also resulted in increased capacity, providing enhanced availability for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA). This alternative to traditional fixed-line broadband offers customers faster download and upload speeds, making it an appealing option for many.
"One New Zealand remains dedicated to driving innovation through 5G advancements. One NZ continues to expand its 5G network rapidly, with over 500 live sites already established and plans to build or upgrade several hundred more within the next 12 months," the company added.
The network re-tuning process included a frequency switch and a bandwidth expansion from 60 to 80 MHz. One New Zealand said these adjustments allow it to optimize its network performance and provide an even more seamless and robust 5G experience.
3.5 GHz Spectrum Allocation
In May, New Zealand's major mobile network operators, including One New Zealand, were allocated 80 MHz of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band as part of a direct allocation by MBIE. This allocation was made in exchange for the operators' commitment to invest in network upgrades for rural areas, as reported by TelecomTalk.
