Nokia India today launched its "Life Tools" product, where it will deliver news, entertainment, educational and agriculture services. Practically speaking that means, people will be able to access weather and crop information, or tips and advice for studying for exams, and entertainment services, which includes things like astrology, jokes and ringtones of new movie release. The service will be launched in the Indian state of Maharashtra, where Nokia successfully conducted a trial.
The service will be rolled out in conjunction with the Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB). Nokia said MSAMB will provide expertise in the areas of commodity prices from their network of 291 local mandis (markets). Nokia is also working with Reuters Market Light, Syngenta, Madison Research, Skymet and others. Nokia Life Tools is hosted by OnMobile Global in India.
MSAMB will also provide news, alerts on schemes and other information directly to consumers.
We believe this is the beginning of a historical journey that will take mobility to grassroots and make a positive difference to the lives of people in the areas that are crucial to them,” Nokia India MD D. Sivakumar said in a statement. The service will be initially available on the just launched Nokia 2323 classic and Nokia 2330 classic devices, and will be later expanded to other Nokia devices, the company said.
The agriculture service from Life Tools. provides information on seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, market prices and weather forecasts. The service comes in two plans. The basic plan comes for Rs30 per month and offers daily weather updates, agriculture related news, advice, and tips.The premium plan costs Rs60 per month and offers updated market prices for three subscriber chosen crops, along with other information.
The content in Life Tools' education service includes three features - learning English modules at various prerparatory levels, exam preparation tips for ICSE, CBSE and state board level exams, with exam results, career tips, and general knowledge. Each of these feature services are priced at Rs30 per month. This content will be delivered in association with Education (India).
