HMD Global has revealed the price of the Nokia 5.1 Plus as Rs 10,999 for the Indian market. The smartphone is priced aggressively in the sub-continent and we can thank the company's partnership with Flipkart for this. The phone will be available for purchase from October 1 and telecom operator Airtel is providing additional data to its prepaid users. At that price, the 5.1 Plus kills the likes of Realme 2 and it will be a treat for the users who are looking for a stock Android smartphone around Rs 10,000.

Nokia 5.1 Plus: Specifications and Features

For the asking price, the Nokia 5.1 Plus offers a lot. It packs a 5.86-inch HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio and 2.5D curved glass. Internally, it has the powerful MediaTek Helio P60 chipset, clubbed with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There's a hybrid card slot inside the 5.1 Plus which allows a user to either insert a second SIM card or a microSD card for expanding the storage. At the moment, HMD has launched the device in only one variant, but the premium variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage could arrive at a later date.

Ajey Mehta, Vice President and Country Head – India, HMD Global, said “With Nokia 5.1 Plus we wanted to bring a phone that was high on performance, that could get exciting gaming and entertainment experiences closer to a wider group of fans. Our vision was to deliver performance, AI imaging and a contemporary design in an accessible device, so that more people can play mobile games, binge-watch their favourite series and capture great content. Nokia 5.1 Plus is for our tech-savvy fans who love finding the best price-performance combination.”

As I mentioned in my hands-on article, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is a powerhouse, thanks to the Helio P60 chipset on board. The phone handled PUBG game with aplomb. Also, the RAM management seemed to be better on the 5.1 Plus compared to the 6.1 Plus.

As for the cameras, the 5.1 Plus has a primary 13MP shooter on the rear paired with a 5MP depth sensor. HMD is betting big on the rear cameras of the 5.1 Plus which work on AI. The phone has an 8MP shooter on the front for selfies and video calls. The phone offers Dual 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth, GPS and also has a USB Type-C port on the bottom. It's armed with a 3060mAh battery and has fast charging support as well.

Being an Android One smartphone, the Nokia 5.1 Plus boots Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with September 2018 security patches.

Nokia 5.1 Plus: Pricing and Availability

Like the Nokia 6.1 Plus, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is an online-only smartphone exclusive to Flipkart in the sub-continent. The phone will retail for Rs 10,999 in the country and the first sale will take place on October 1. Notably, HMD Global will also be selling the smartphone via Nokia Mobile Shop as well. Pre-orders on Nokia Mobile Shop will begin today, while Flipkart will offer notify button. The phone can be purchased in two colour options- Gloss Black and Gloss Midnight Blue.

Nokia 5.1 Plus: Airtel Additional Data Offer

Furthermore to make the deal even better, HMD has joined hands with Bharti Airtel to offer additional data and cashback of Rs 1,800. Airtel prepaid customers will receive an instant Rs 1,800 cashback, and additional 240GB of data over the next 12 months on recharges of Rs 199, Rs 249 and Rs 448.
