Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communication and Information Technology released ‘National Telecom M2M Roadmap’ in a conference on Smart Infrastructure Supporting Policies and Regulations for M2M Communications' on Tuesday. The document unleashes the potential of M2M and facilitates as a single reference document for all M2M stakeholders in the country.
“India, being on the path of digital empowerment, requires a connected venture to establish M2M communications between the stakeholders,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad. The potential of M2M in areas like healthcare, education, smart-grid, smart-grid, smart building, smart city, etc. will have serious benefits to citizens and Government, he opined. He also emphasized that M2M is the key enabler for the Government’s vision of Digital India, Make in India and smart city projects.
There is a need for coordination amongst various sectors for the realization of M2M-based infrastructure. For the purpose, Rakesh Garg, Secretary proposed the constitution of an Apex body. The body can facilitate inter-ministerial coordination requirements between different sectors.
The conference had the presence of key personalities including Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Secretary Power, Sh. Vijay Chhibber, Secretary MoRTH and R S Sharma, Secretary Deity and S.S. Sirohi, Member (Technology). They pointed on the need for a robust infrastructure for the success of ‘Smart’ projects in the country. S.S. Sirohi highlighted the need to bring interoperability among devices/ network/ applications and also to raise the quality of services to global standards, especially in four major sectors - Automotive, Health, Power, Safety and Surveillance and one on M2M Gateway and Architecture. The reports on these were released during the conference.
Various M2M-based applications for different industries, policy requirements, scalable M2M ecosystem and many were also discussed at the venue.
