MOBILE NUMBER PORTABILITY (MNP):”THE NEXT BIG JUMP”

Follow Us

After the Long delays in implementing mobile number portability, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has finally zeroed in on two providers –Syniverse Technologies and Telcordia Technologies - for the implementation of mobile number portability (MNP) in India. Both the companies will provide solutions for 11 circles each of the total 22 circles in the country. Both the companies are big players in telecom solutions and have already implemented their MNP services in different countries.

MNP for sure will turn out to be a win-win situation for mobile consumers in India, with consumers being able to retain the same number while choosing to change mobile operator.

In MNP if the user is not happy with your current service provider and is hesitant to move to another one due to the fear of losing your mobile number, the users can now do so in MNP system which allows you to carry your original number to any provider that you want to move to.

MPN will get implemented by the summer of 2009 in a few circles.MNP will create a win win situation were the user will retain is mobile phone number and can move to a operator with Better Service and Low Tariff plans.MNP may trigger a price war as more and more operator will try to Churn the customer's of other operator. The Number Portability Database will have the mobile numbers of all mobile users. All mobile service providers will then link their networks with that of the MCHAs(Mobile Number Portability Clearing House Administrator) and NPDB(National Portability Database).
