The Xiaomi Mi Band 6 is what a lot of Indians have been waiting for. Mi Bands have truly become a fitness statement around the world. Since the time Mi Band 6 launched in China, fans have been waiting for Xiaomi to launch it in the Indian market as well. The Mi Band 6 is more than what I thought it would be. The huge display just takes my heart away, and it is just an experience to look at such a big screen. The Mi Band 6 stands out in a lot of ways; let’s see what’s special about the fitness band.
Mi Band 6 First Impressions: Design, Body and Display
The Mi Band 6 looks a lot like the Mi Band 5. The only thing is, the display size is bigger. It is a 1.56-inch AMOLED display, and I really like the colours on the screen. The brightness is also solid, and there’s tempered glass at the top with an anti-fingerprint coating.
The device’s dimensions are 47.4 x 18.6 x 12.7mm, and the strap’s length is adjustable (155 - 219mm). It is super light and easy on the hands. The strap is made of high-grade and durable silicone material.
The screen is responsive, and that’s something I appreciate. For some reason, the display feels more responsive than all the previous generation Mi Bands. Xiaomi has designed the Mi Band 6 in such a way that it is 5 ATM water-resistant, meaning you can take it for swimming whenever you want.
As per data obtained by Huami labs, the Mi Band 6 display is approximately 50% larger than the display of Mi Band 5. So it will be a huge change in experience for anyone shifting from the Mi Band 5 to Mi Band 6. The 1.56-inch AMOLED display comes with support for 326PPI.
The body of the Mi Band 6 looks very solid and durable. It just gives me the confidence that I can take it anywhere I go.
Mi Band 6 First Impressions: Battery and Function or Health Features
The Mi Band 6 took less than 2 hours to charge completely from zero, which is what the company promised as well. There is a 125mAh LiPo battery inside, which can run up to 14 days as per the company’s claim. It is something that I will have to test out myself.
There are three main sensors inside the fitness band, including the PPG heart rate sensor, 3-axis accelerometer sensor, and 3-axis gyroscope sensor. The fitness band can connect with a number of applications, including Mi Wear App, Mi Fit App, Strava, and more on Android 5 and iOS 10 and above devices.
Inside the retail box, you will find the Mi Smart Band 6, 1 strap, 1 user manual, and a magnetic charging cable. The charging happens through a magnetic mechanism just like it did on the Mi Band 5.
The Mi Band 6 is capable of auto-detecting 6 actives and comes with support for up to 30 exercise modes. There are new exercise modes added, including boxing, dance, and basketball. The 6 activities which the Mi Band 6 can detect automatically are - indoor rowing, running, walking, treadmill running, cycling, and elliptical training.
The Mi Band 6 comes with a suite of health tracking features. These include SpO2 tracking, a PPG sensor for accurately monitoring 24/7 and a stress tracker. The Mi Band 6 can also track the sleep of the users and show the quality of sleep they are getting.
Mi Band 6 Price and Overall Impression
The Mi Band 6 is priced at Rs 3,499 in India. Modestly, the price looks very high given none of the Mi Bands have even come close to the Rs 3,000 price point in India. But then it can be argued that none of the Mi Bands had such exciting features or a 1.56-inch AMOLED display.
The Mi Band 6 looks honestly great and very promising. There’s nothing more I could have asked Xiaomi to add to their latest Mi Band. Honestly, there’s something about the Mi Band 6 that is pushing me to keep it on my wrists all day long and even at night because it can track sleep.
The overall design of the Mi Band 6 is very cool. Yes, it doesn’t look that new, but the features and the larger display just take it a notch higher in the market with its competitors. Kudos to Xiaomi for doing a great job with the Mi Band 6.
