At the Mobile World Congress 2018 event show floor, Huawei has expanded its tablet range with the MediaPad M5. The company has announced three variants of the MediaPad M5 with high-end hardware and latest Android operating system on board. The Huawei MediaPad M5 comes in two display sizes- 8.4-inch model and a 10.8-inch model. Huawei also confirmed the launch of MediaPad M5 10.8 Pro model with a stylus, namely, the M Pen and it also comes with a bundled keyboard dock, allowing to use the tablet as a 2-in-1 convertible. The MediaPad M5 will ship later this year, but Huawei is yet to reveal the availability. However, it confirmed that India would not get the MediaPad variants in the first phase of shipping though.
Diving into the specifications of the MediaPad M5, both the display variants ship with exactly the same hardware, sans the Pro model which offers some additional hardware. The MediaPad M5 8.4-inch model ships with a battery of 5100mAh, while the 10.8-inch model has a 7500mAh battery. The 8.4-inch model weighs 316 grams, whereas the 10.8-inch model has 498grams weight to it.
Both the models use an IPS LCD display and offers a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. At the heart of the phone, we get the Huawei Kirin 960 chipset, and it comes in multiple storage variants. There's a single 4GB RAM variant, but the storage differs from 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. And there's a microSD card slot for storage expansion as well.
It boots Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with EMUI 8.0 on top. Connectivity options in the tablets include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and guess what, Huawei has announced an LTE variant of the tablet as well. It offers sensors such as the Ambient light sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, compass, Hall effect sensor, and fingerprint sensor. Furthermore, Huawei has added dual speakers to the tablet. Cameras include a 13MP rear camera with autofocus support followed by an 8MP selfie camera. Both the models come with USB Type-C port.
As stated, Huawei also announced a Pro model of the MediaPad M5 10.8 and it comes bundled with additional hardware such as Huawei M Pen stylus. Huawei also announced a keyboard dock, which allows users to convert the tablet as a 2-in-1 convertible. Huawei also announced world's first FullView TouchScreen display laptop at the same event.
