
Starlink soon wants to start offering services in India. The company has been trying to get the necessary permissions from the Indian government to do so. There have been plenty of hurdles for the company so far. However, in 2025, Starlink got many permissions and go aheads from the authorities, however, the final approvals are still required. There's also the issue of spectrum allocation for the satellite communication (satcom) companies which needs to be resolved by the government.

Much recently, the union telecom minister of India, Jyotiraditya Scindia, met with Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Starlink Business Operations (SpaceX), along with the company's senior leadership team for discussing advanced satellite-based last-mile internet access across India. Elon Musk, in a recent podcast with Nikhil Kamath said that Starlink aims to connect the rural areas or remote regions of the world where fiber is hard to deploy.
Quoting the social media post of Scindia's meeting with Layren Dreyer, Elon Musk said that he is looking forward to serve India with Starlink. The company's website recently had a glitch wherein it started showing the prices for Indian market. Starlink quickly removed the pricing, and clarified that they don't yet have the permissions to offer services in India and thus that pricing was just a glitch, and not the actual pricing.

Starlink now operates globally, in more than 100 countries and India will be a huge market for the company to tap into. Earlier this year, Starlink also partnered with Jio and Airtel for retail distribution of its kits and services in India. Both the telcos have a deep market reach with its retail stores across the country, and this will help Starlink in accelerating its reach in the market.
