BSNL Expands WIMAX service in GOAIndia’s leading telecom and Broadband service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has expanded its WiMax service (wireless broadband service) in five Industrial areas of Goa Industrial Development Corporation (Goa IDC). BSNL WiMax the Wireless Broadband Service offers a range of service plans based on bandwidth rates, providing speeds from 256 kbps to 8 Mbps.

BSNL’s technology partner, Soma Networks has recently deployed the world's highest quality wireless broadband service using FlexMax System in five industrial estates of Goa, ie. Verna, Kundaim, Pilerne, Tivim & Colvale. WiMax wireless Broadband service can reach even remote places since it doesn’t require wired infrastructure.

G R Ravi, GM BSNL, stated that it was a great moment for the Goa’s industrial sector to be connected through WiMax - the super fast wireless broadband service. He also said that broadband has immense potential in the country, considering the growing rate in developed countries like United Kingdom, United States and South Korea, where the broadband has reached up to 80-90% people, whereas in India it is just 10% connectivity but its growth indicates broadband has immense potential.

A V Palekar, MD, Goa IDC announced that the current focus is to enable industries in Goa to become competitive in the international market of today’s globalized business world. “The high speed wireless broadband Internet connectivity will enable industries to use applications like video conferencing, wide area networking and surveillance systems like CCTV and provide access to centrally and remotely hosted applications”, he said.

The Goa IDC has ventured into an agreement with BSNL to provide WIMAX services to around 4,000 units as a part of its infrastructure support.

BSNL’s partner Soma network will manage the services on behalf of BSNL.
Under this initiative BSNL plans to target 4000 units in 19 industrial estates in its first phase and has been active in five estates linking around 2000 units.
Soma Networks Inc helps service providers and their subscribers access the world with WiMax. As a leading provider of mobile WiMax products and professional services Soma’s FlexMax Mobile Wimax system, SoftAir Multimedia application system and global professional services provide a complete platform that accelerates service provider’s time to market with revenue generating applications that bring broadband to homes and business houses.

Apart from Goa IDC units, various corporates have tied up with BSNL-Soma’s broadband service in Goa. BSNL has partnered with Soma Networks to deploy Wimax service in Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. Soma’s wireless DSL technology using FlexMax requires one-third the time it takes to install other telecom infrastructure thereby speeding up the country’s broadband penetration rapidly.
