BSNL Postpaid Subscribers Can Now Carry Forward Unused Data Up to 200GB

When telecom subscribers choose a postpaid plan, the first thing they check is for the Data Carry Forward functionality. The top two telcos- Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel are offering this feature for a long time, but sadly, the state-run telco, BSNL did not implement this feature despite massive requests from its subscribers. However, things are now changing as BSNL started listening to its users. The government-owned PSU has now introduced Data Carry Forward feature on one of its postpaid plans (other postpaid plans will get it very soon according to our sources). BSNL has revised its Rs 525 postpaid plan in Kolkata circle to offer better data benefit, and of course, the data carry forward functionality. The Rs 525 plan in Kolkata circle now comes with 80GB data limit every month (speeds will be reduced to 40 Kbps after the FUP), and a user can accumulate up to 200GB with the help of the newly introduced feature.

BSNL Rs 525 Postpaid Plan: Details and Validity

BSNL is offering the Rs 525 postpaid plan across all the circles, but it has now revised it for its users in Kolkata. The revised plan provides a user 80GB of 2G/3G data along with data carry forward option of up to 200GB. Users can also enjoy unlimited voice calls to any network within India and the calls will not be charged to numbers even in Mumbai and Delhi circles. Thankfully, this plan also ships with 100 SMS per day benefit, and if a user wants to send an international SMS, BSNL will charge Rs 5 per SMS.

Talking about the security deposit, BSNL will charge Rs 500 for users looking for local+STD services, Rs 2,000 for local+STD+ISD services and Rs 5,000 for local+STD+ISD+International Roaming services. In addition, the data benefit is unlimited on the network as if a user finishes the alloted 80GB monthly data, BSNL will provide data at 40 Kbps. For those who’re looking for an unlimited data plan without any speed restriction, BSNL has the Rs 1,525 postpaid plan. Lastly, users will also get free Amazon Prime subscription for one year with this postpaid plan.

BSNL Data Forward Feature: It Was Long Coming

BSNL always joins the party very late and it continues even with the Data Carry Forward feature. The government-owned PSU has implemented data carry forward feature on postpaid plans nearly after a year compared to private telecom service providers. Back in 2015, BSNL offered data carry forward feature to its prepaid users, but the service was discontinued due to the steady growth in data usage.

Now, the telco has implemented the same on its postpaid plans, albeit with only one plan. BSNL is allowing a user to store a maximum of 200GB data, unlike private telcos which are allowing users to store up to 500GB of data. Users of Vodafone Idea on a postpaid plan priced above Rs 1,000 can store up to 500GB, while the users on postpaid plans priced below Rs 1,000 can accumulate up to 200GB. Airtel, on the other hand, allows every postpaid user to store a maximum of 500GB.

BSNL Rs 525 Postpaid Plan: What it Offers in Other Circles?

Well, as mentioned above, BSNL has the same Rs 525 postpaid plan in other circles too, but the telco did not revise it. Sans Kolkata, the BSNL Plan 525 provides a user with unlimited voice calls and 15GB of data valid for a month. Of course, there’s no Data Carry Forward feature as well.
