Bharti Airtel today announced that it has completed the deployment of additional spectrum in Kolkata. Airtel said it acquired 5 MHz in the 1800 band in July 2024. This deployment will boost its 4G and 5G network capacities, thereby improving data speeds and providing significant coverage inside homes and buildings. This follows Airtel's earlier announcement of new spectrum deployment in Chandigarh and Punjab, TelecomTalk reported.

Improved Network Quality for Kolkata Region
The deployment of additional spectrum is now complete, and as a result, customers across Kolkata, Greater Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly will enjoy an elevated quality of service for both voice and data, Airtel said on Wednesday.
Commenting on the spectrum deployment, Bharti Airtel added, "With the integration of this new spectrum, customers can now enjoy enhanced call connectivity, faster data speeds, and overall improved performance. We remain committed to continuous investment in technologies that will elevate the service experience for our customers."

Recent Spectrum Acquisition
At the most recent spectrum auction, Airtel acquired 97 MHz of spectrum, consolidating fragmented blocks and expanding its holdings, particularly in the Sub-GHz band. With its diverse spectrum holdings across the 900, 1800, 2100, and 2300 bands, Airtel said it is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for high-speed data services with its 5G and 4G networks.

According to the most recent update from the company, Airtel's 5G network coverage now reaches 140,000 villages and all 7,900 towns in India.
